Registered sex offender is arrested for taking child porn on a cruise to the Bahamas after customs agents search his laptop at Port Canaveral

  • Michael David Harrison, 51, was detained at the Florida port after customs agents found two files on his laptop that contained child pornography

Federal authorities arrested a registered sex offender on Monday at Port Canaveral on charges he transported child pornography on a cruise ship. 

Michael David Harrison, 51, was detained at the Florida port after customs agents found two files on his laptop that contained child pornography.

Agents report that Harrison had just arrived at the port after completing a four-day cruise to the Bahamas. 

Nevada's public Sex Offender website lists that Harrison - who resides in Sparks, Nevada - was convicted of a lewd act on a child in 2009 in Roseville, California

Nevada’s public Sex Offender website lists that Harrison – who resides in Sparks, Nevada – was convicted of a lewd act on a child in 2009 in Roseville, California. 

‘A routine records check by Customs and Border Protection revealed Michael Harrison is a registered sex offender in (the) State of Nevada,’ court records obtained by Click Orlando state.

The identification prompted agents to search through Harrison’s possessions, where they then eventually found the child pornography files.

Harrison was arrested and appeared before a federal magistrate on Monday.

He reappeared in court on Tuesday, where his public defender asked for bond. 

A judge denied the request. 

‘No condition or combination of conditions of release will reasonably assure the safety of any other person and the community,’ the judge stated in their position. 

Harrison could face a mandatory five year sentence if convicted of transporting child pornography.
