Shannon Noll fans in a rage at State of Origin 2 KFC debacle

Shannon Noll fans are left scratching their heads after he performs a KFC jingle about ‘chicken and footy’ at State of Origin 2 – and his entire set is cut from the televised broadcast: ‘I’m fuming #justice for Nollsie’

Shannon Noll might have three number one singles under his belt, but he opted to open his performance at State of Origin 2 with a KFC advertisement that left many fans at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane scratching their heads.

Even more perplexing, Channel Nine opted to kill Nollsy’s performance from the broadcast altogether, despite the What About Me singer, 47, heavily promoting the soundcheck on his Instagram.

Understandably, Origin and Nollsy fans had a lot to say about the debacle on social media.

‘Did the NRL just make Shannon Noll perform a full song about the KFC Friday Night Footy jingle?’ asked one bemused viewer on Twitter.

‘Shannon Noll singing a KFC ad at Origin has to be as low as things could ever get #RIPTina,’ wrote another.

ABC Sport’s Nick Campton soon joined the chorus in disbelief.

‘If I wasn’t seeing Shannon Noll open his pre-game set with a KFC jingle I’d refuse to believe it happened,’ he wrote said.

‘Who needs Taylor Swift when you’ve got Shannon Noll at Suncorp Stadium singing a song about footy and chicken,’ added another.

Elsewhere, others were left perplexed as to why Shannon’s performance was cut from the broadcast altogether.

‘So Nine doesn’t broadcast Shannon Noll’s “performance” because he was singing the theme song of the sponsor. Which would be a free ad. But ABC sport radio accidentally did cuz they were broadcasting pre match stuff. Funny,’ wrote respect music journalist Kathy McCabe.

‘They’re showing even less of Shannon’s performance than they did of The Living End’s, i.e. none at all,’ wrote another.

‘They didn’t even show a single Shannon Noll song?! I’m fuming. Getting in the big black shiny car to Drive and give some throat punching justice for Nollsie,’ quipped another.
