- Man with a blowtorch is left thirsty after his bottle-opening plan goes awry
- He tries to copy hack that uses flame’s heat to blow the cork out of the bottle
- However the industrial blowtorch proves a bit powerful hot for the job
- The bottle suddenly explodes – sending glass flying across the room
What do you do when you fancy a glass of red wine but can’t find the corkscrew?
This man decided the proper course of action was to take an industrial blowtorch to the bottle – in a rather over-the-top version of a popular online hack.
The theory is that the blowtorch – normally a mini version used by chefs to brown their creme brulee – will heat up the air above the wine and the increased pressure will push out the cork.
However, he used an industrial version of the tool and discovered what happens when you introduce several thousand degrees of heat to the glass neck of a supermarket wine bottle.
The short You Tube film shows the bottleneck loudly exploding, sending glass flying across the kitchen.
Fortunately the blowtorch operator and his friend appear shocked but unharmed – and thirsty.
Food and Wine explained the hack: ‘The idea is that heating up the air in the neck of the bottle between the wine and the cork causes the air to expand enough to pop the cork right out.’
This man was quite lucky to still have two eyeballs after this ridiculous behaviour
Should this man ever manage to carry out the hack successfully, there is one more piece of advice: ‘Those who are familiar with the hack process will tell you that you should let the bottle cool down before you start to pour it.’
This giant bottle of wine was no match for a roasting hot blowtorch
‘Those who are familiar with the hack process will tell you however that you should let the bottle cool down before you start to pour it.’
