Sheffield United are looking to stay one step ahead of the coronavirus outbreak as they continue to hold contract talks with players by video conferencing.

Chris Wilder has already been keeping tabs with his team by video links after the pandemic forced them out of their Steelphalt Academy centre in March.

But the Blades boss is keen to tie down some of his stars which have helped them become unlikely Champions League contenders this term.

According to the Sheffield Star, negotiations are continuing to progress regarding Oliver Norwood and John Lundstram who both have a desire to remain at Bramall Lane.

Lundstram is out of contract at the end of June, but fears that the club could lose him if the season restarts at a later date have been eased as his current deal has an optional 12-month extension.

Talks remain positive with the 26-year-old and his agent ,and he is expected to pen a new deal at the Blades.

Although talks with Norwood are not as advanced, the Northern Ireland midfielder still has another year to run on his contract and is eager to commit his future to the club.

‘It’s nice that the club want me to stay here,’ Norwood said earlier in the season. ‘We’ll get there. It’s as simple as that.

‘Why, from a personal point of view, would I want to go anywhere else? It’s a special place to be. I can’t see myself leaving and why would I want to?’

Before the Covid-19 outbreak, the Blades were seventh in the Premier League table and just five points off a top four and Champions League spot in their first return to the top flight since 2007.
