A sheriff’s deputy is said to have accidentally run over a two-year-old boy with his car, leaving him bloodied and slightly burned.

Authorities in Tennessee are investigating the incident, which took place on Friday night outside a home in Livingston and left Kayden Blodgett injured.

An Overton County Sheriff’s deputy drove to a family home to serve a civil warrant, according to WTVF-TV.

The deputy came to the home to speak with the father, Joshua Blodgett.

‘And then he got back into his car while I was talking to the other deputy, and I guess he took off and didn’t look around, look at his surroundings or anything,’ Blodgett said.

‘I guess he hit my son, and he went about ten feet that way, and then stopped and my son ran to me.’

Kayden was flown to a children’s hospital 100 miles away in Vanderbilt.

He was given stitches in his arms and head. He also suffered minor burns to his body.

‘I just ran outside, and before I could even ask what happened, I saw his face covered in blood,’ Cassie Blodgett, Kayden’s mother, said.

‘I was terrified. I mean, I’ve seen him with bumps and bruises before, and he takes it like a champ.’

It remains unclear exactly what happened, and the Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating.
