Meanwhile, US ice skaters Madison Chock and Evan Bates suffered a devastating fall during their routine.

Disaster struck for the 2015 US national champions as they were about to get into their combination spin.

After Bates picked Chock up and set her skate back down on the ice, their skates became tangles and suddenly both of them fell flat on the ice.

Canadian skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won gold while Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron took silver.

Virtue and Moir broke the world record in ice dancing total points with a 206.07 during their dynamic, brilliant free dance to win the gold medal on Tuesday.

Their win makes them the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history with their third gold and fifth medal overall.
