This is the shocking moment a well-camouflaged praying mantis capture a butterfly.

A nature enthusiast, Ashley Carson, filmed the beautiful Monarch butterfly in her back garden in Hutchinson, Kansas when it pounced.

While filming the brilliant orange butterfly, she was completely unaware of the hungry mantis laying in wait just inches away. 

The butterfly is on some flowers outside her window when mantis begins to crawl up the plant. 

It slowly reaches out and grabs insect before sinking it’s teeth into it.

Stunned Carson quickly moves the camera away before going back to find out what happened.

The mantis then brought its prey down to a leaf and began munching on it.
