A toddler has been captured on video wandering around the backseat of a van unrestrained.

The video was filmed on the Kwinana Freeway in Cockburn, south of Perth, by a motorist with a dashcam driving behind the van.

In the video filmed on Friday afternoon a young child moved freely in the back of the silver van.

The speed limit on that stretch of freeway is 100km/h.

Just over a hundred kilometres away a 61-year-old man was pulled over for driving with an unrestrained child on his lap on the Forrest Highway.

The man was fined $550 and given four demerit points.

Yarloop Police tweeted they were still investigating.

It is unclear whether the Kwinana Freeway in Cockburn driver has faced any penalties.
