Shocking moment hairdresser is left unconscious in the road after being dragged by taxi

This is the shocking moment a young woman was dragged along a road as she tried to get out of a taxi after a night out in Liverpool.

Hairdresser Kayleigh Dixon was left unconscious and lying in the middle of the road after a black cab driver sped off with its door open, leaving her shoes, mobile phone and hairbrush scattered on the ground.

Her boyfriend said he feared the 29-year-old might have been killed in the terrifying incident that occurred during the early hours of Sunday morning.

It was all caught on camera by a friend, who decided to film after the group claimed they were being ripped off by the driver.

Ms Dixon and boyfriend Chris Mahaffy, 30, had been enjoying a night out in Liverpool with family and friends and had got into the cab on Dale Street at around 6am.

They were attempting to head home to Speke and said the driver refused to start his meter and instead demanded a fare of £30 up front.

After accepting the fare due to the late hour and cold weather, Mr Mahaffy said the driver then demanded more money.

He explained: ‘He turned around and said that because there were five of us he actually wanted £40 – he was very angry and aggressive.

‘We decided to get out and Kayleigh was the last to leave – the driver didn’t know that my sister was filming the incident.’

As the clip shows, when Ms Dixon directed Mr Mahaffy’s sister to film the driver’s badge number on the inside of the door, he suddenly drove off – dragging the young woman several feet along the road and leaving her injured on the ground.

A furious Mr Mahaffy chased after the driver, who still had his doors open, and said the driver raced through a red light to get away.

He said: ‘Kayleigh had fallen forward and banged her head – she was basically out cold in the street – I thought ‘oh my god he’s killed her.’

He added: ‘I was shaking with anger – I hope we find him and he gets dealt with properly.’

Mr Mahaffy took Ms Dixon to see a doctor and said that while she has been cleared of any major injuries – such as a brain bleed – she has been left badly bruised and suffering dizzy spells.

The couple were planning to meet police to report the incident.

Ms Dixon posted the video on social media, where hundreds of people have  commented to wish her well and condemn the actions of the cab driver.

Sarah Graham added: ‘Oh my god Kayleigh, can’t believe he did that I hope you’re ok.’

After posting the video, Ms Dixon later updated her friends to let them know that she was recovering but vowed to make sure the issue was taken further.

She said: ‘Would like to thank everyone for all your kind comments and messages regarding my video of what happened last night I am ok fortunately could of been a lot worse but it’s not the end thanks everyone.’
