A man who was driving his pickup truck through a central Arkansas Burger King drive-thru has suffered severe burns after his pickup truck exploded at the window.

Ron Daniel said that he had just picked up a propane tank and decided to stop for a couple of burgers in the town of Beebe, near Little Rock, on Friday when he suddenly heard a hissing sound.

He realized the propane tank he had in the back of the truck was leaking and so he went to try and turn the tank’s valve off.

‘I had picked up a bottle of propane and I was going by Burger King and get me a couple of Whoppers,’ Daniel said.

‘I heard a hissing sound and the minute I stuck my hand in and touched it, it burst into flames,’ he said.

Daniel, 78, said he walked a few feet away to wait for the emergency services but seconds later both the propane tank and the truck exploded.

‘I just went and sat on the light over there waiting for someone to show up,’ Daniel said.

The propane tank eventually exploded in a massive fireball which sent Daniel running for cover

‘I looked up and saw debris in the air and I just took off running,’ Daniel said to KARK.

Daniel said his body is covered in blisters and has first-degree burns all over his body. He was released from the hospital Friday evening.

He says he’s not in a lot of pain, but he is very uncomfortable and taking medicine.

‘I got little blisters on different places of my body,’ Daniel said. ‘I got blisters under my eyes that has pus in them,’ he explained graphically.

No one else was injured in the explosion but the truck was completely destroyed. Local police and fire arrived and managed to put out the fireball.

Daniel said he was sorry he caused such a problem.

‘I paid for two Whoppers and I didn’t get them but they sure charged me on my credit card,’ he noted.

‘I’m just thankful that I’m alive and the thing that bothers me more than anything…is the damage to Burger King,’ Daniel said.
