The gun store owners who sold confessed Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz the semiautomatic refile he used to kill 17 people on Wednesday said their devastated the weapon came from them.
Michael and Lisa Morrison said that they are so ‘mortified’ over the event, they shuttered their business, Sunrise Tactical Supply, indefinitely on Friday.
The Morrisons lawyer Douglas Rudman said in a statement that the couple are ‘completely shocked and mortified that anything like this would happen,’ according to The New York Daily News.

The couple also said that they will support new legislation designed to keep deadly weapons out of the hands of people with mental health issues
‘They condemn in the strongest possible fashion anyone who use any weapon in anger and violence,’ the statement continued, adding ‘They’re good family people who would never advocate violence toward anyone.’

‘They feel strongly about supporting measures that would require the disclosure of allegations of mental illness to agencies that govern the approval of firearm sales,’ the statement said.

‘These measures will be a first step toward taking firearms out of the hands of those who would use them for such reprehensible attacks.’
The gun store located in a Coral Springs, Fla., strip mall was closed for good on Friday as two police officers stood guard outside the premises.
‘Out of respect for those affected by this horrible tragedy, Sunshine Tactical will remain closed until further notice,’ said Rudman.
The gun store had been up and running for more than four years before FBI and ATF agent arrived on Thursday to inspect the premises as part of their investigation into the deadly shooting.
The 19-year-old shooter entered Sunrise Tactical Supply in February 2017 to purchase the AR-15 rifle used to slaughter 17 people at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the Daily News reported.
‘There was nothing about this transaction that raised any suspicions in the minds of the owners or the employees,’ said Rudman.
‘They performed all appropriate background checks, received all the proper clearances, and held the weapon for the required 5 business day waiting period.’
Cruz reportedly wrote ‘no’ when asked if he suffered from any mental health issues or was ever institutionalized for treatment on his ATF paperwork used to conduct background checks on prospective gun buyers.
Rudman said that the killer did not provide enough information to the store owners for them to make a truly informed decision on whether to sell Cruz the weapon.
‘They were deprived of the information they required to make an informed decision as to whether or not to sell this weapon,’ the lawyer said. ‘They received no information as to any prior instances of outrageous or inappropriate behavior.’
Rudman added that the couple ‘extend their most sincere condolences to everyone affected by this cowardly act.’
