Horrific moment ‘shoplifter’ fleeing Tesco with stolen groceries TRIPS and gets run over by delivery lorry in car park but SURVIVES – then police arrest driver for ‘being under influence’

This is the shocking moment a man suspected of being a shoplifter flees from Tesco but is ran over by a lorry in the car park.

CCTV cameras show the man, who is in his 30s, sprinting away from the store in South Ockendon, Essex, but falling beneath the wheels of a white lorry.

Another man, thought to be a member of staff at the Tesco Express on North Road, follows him across the car park but he is not harmed in the horrific incident.

Video shows the two men running away from the store as one clutches a bag which is thought to have contained groceries.

As they come towards a row of parked cars the man holding the bag steps out to avoid running into them just as the lorry also turns in the car park.

The lorry then runs over the man, who has fallen onto the floor, appearing to crush his legs.

The other man, thought to be a staff member, then rushes to the man and appears to shout for help.

The man, who is thought to have just stolen groceries, cannot move out of the way in time and the lorry runs over his legs, left, before the other man rushes, right, to help him 

A spokesperson for Essex Police confirmed they were called at 3.40pm on Thursday January 10. 

They said: ‘The pedestrian, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury. 

‘A 39-year-old man from South Ockendon was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He has been released under investigation.

‘We received reports of theft from Tesco Express, in North Road, South Ockendon, shortly before the collision. Enquiries are ongoing.’ 

A Tesco spokesperson said: ‘We are assisting the police with their enquiries following a serious incident outside our South Ockendon Express.’
