Shopper shocked after her Kmart party garland looks very different to what she expected: ‘This is deceiving’

  • A shopper who wanted a quick, easy party decoration was shocked by the buy
  • Discovered the string was three metres long but there were only 20 tassels

A shopper who wanted a quick and easy party decoration has shared her shock after a Kmart item wasn’t exactly what she bargained for.

The woman, called Essie, posted on Facebook, where she shared a picture of the pastel rainbow tassel garland, which sells for just $4 at the discount store.

While Essie thought that she was buying a three-metre-long decoration for her garden, in fact it was just the ‘string that is three metres long’.

Even though the tassels looked full and fluffy on the packet she bought from Kmart, it was the string that was advertised as three metres long, while 20 pieces of tassel are all bunched in the middle.

‘Ahhhh it is only the string that is 3m long,’ Essie laughed in her post on Facebook.

It wasn’t long before the post struck a chord with thousands, leaving many in hysterics.

‘Sorry, but that is hilarious,’ one person wrote.

‘I laughed way too hard at this,’ another added.

A third described it as a ‘bit deceiving’.

But not everyone was on Essie’s side, with some saying she simply needs to spread out the tassels for a more even finish.

‘It does say 20 pieces I don’t think 20 pieces would cover three metres long if you don’t space them out,’ one person wrote.

Another said simply: ‘Um, yeah, you have to space them’.

Others said they still thought the decoration looked ‘cute’, even if it wasn’t what Essie expected.

The decoration has an impressive 4.6 star rating online, where it has been described as a ‘nice and pretty backdrop for a party’, ‘beautiful’ and ‘excellent value’.

‘Cute addition to a party or if your just trying to add some colour or decor to an area. Looks even better if there is a bit of wind around to make the tassels swirl,’ one reviewer wrote.

Another added: ‘These are actually really pretty but they slide on the string. I had to tie knots in the string around each tassel to stop them moving which took a long time and a fair bit of effort’.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Kmart for comment.
