Shoppers SLAM ‘woke’ name for Primark’s gender neutral ‘parenthood’ collection

Now Primark cancels mothers: Shoppers slam ‘woke’ chain for naming new line of pregnancy clothing its ‘parenthood collection’ – with no mention of maternity or women

  • Shoppers have slammed ‘woke’ name for Primark’s new pregnancy range
  • The ‘parenthood collection’ will be available in stores over the coming weeks
  • Social media users accused Primark of ‘going too far’ and branded it ‘outrageous’

Primark has come under fire for cancelling motherhood after it branded its new range of pregnancy clothing the ‘parenthood collection’.

The high street retailer was accused of bowing to ‘woke’ ideals after it promoted the collection on Instagram today in a post that did not explicitly mention maternity, women or mothers.

The post read: ‘Introducing our A/W parenthood collection. From floaty frocks to simple jersey staples, say hello to our hero pieces you need to curate your capsule pregnancy wardrobe.’

Shoppers were quick to slam the politically correct post, with one posting: ‘Parenthood range? For the love of God!’ Another added: ‘What dad needs clothes when the woman is pregnant?’

Another agreed: ‘Why call it parenthood, only women get pregnant. What is wrong with calling it the maternity collection as it will only be worn by mothers?’

Others wrote: ‘Parenthood?? Maternity’. Another post read: ‘Parenthood? So is that a maternity range then?’

It comes days after an initial post announcing the range, which still referred to ‘parenthood range’ but also used the term ‘maternity’.

The clothes will be available in store in the coming weeks.

It read: ‘Introducing our latest parenthood collection. A maternity capsule wardrobe will make life easy and our range, all in timeless neutral tones, will be the foundation of your new wardrobe as the weather gets colder.’

While the retailer faced criticism over its use of parenthood, some shoppers supported the move.

One tweeted: ‘Imagine getting mad because Primark called a new range of clothes the ‘parenthood collection’ instead of ‘maternity collection’ honestly who gives a f***.

‘Not all pregnant people want to be known as mothers, some of them might want to simply identify as a parent.’

A third questioned: ‘What’s wrong with it?!!! it is parenthood isnt it?!!!!!’ while a fourth wrote:

‘People really out here complaining that Primark has named its new maternity range Parenthood? Like get a life and stop being an exclusive a**hole.’

Meanwhile, a further added: ‘I think it’s more to do with how gender has become more of a spectrum recently and not everyone who gives birth wants to be known as a mother, someone who may be non binary may decide they prefer to be known as a parent.’
