Shots are fired during stand-off with police in Swindon as two pubs are locked down and residents told to stay indoors

  • Police were called around 8pm tonight to the New Inn pub in Swindon, Wiltshire 
  • Revellers were held at nearby Dockle Farmhouse as the pub doors were locked
  • Locals say they saw ambulances, police dogs, 10 police cars, and armed cops

At least two shots have been fired behind a pub in Swindon, causing armed police to swoop in on the scene.

Police have cordoned off an area behind the New Inn pub, after they were called around 8pm tonight.

Those in the pub were held at the nearby Dockle Farmhouse as the pub doors were locked shut.

On local wrote on Facebook: ‘Sh*ts going down outside my house!

‘Another ambulance just turned up and a load of police cars parked at the New Inn  ran over here! Police dogs too.’

Another witness said at least 10 police cars were present. 

A 19-year-old man told the Swindon Advertiser: ‘I saw them duck down behind the car. You could hear them shout: “armed police, armed police”. 

‘There’s shots going off.
