Sickening text messages by teenage murderers reveal plan to kill Indian migrant, girl met on Tinder

A teenage girl has pleaded guilty to the gruesome murder of an Indian immigrant IT worker almost twice her age after seducing him on Tinder.

Rosie Page Lewis, 17, hatched a sinister plot with her male friend, also 17, to murder Sandeep Dhiman, 30, just a week before Christmas last year.

Cruel text messages between Lewis and her accomplice, Shaun Liam Karauria, reveal the sadistic intentions of the pair as they calmly plotted the murder.

The pair eventually settled on luring Mr Dhiman to a country road in Napier, in New Zealand’s North Island, before repeatedly stabbing him and leaving him to die.

Karauria repeatedly stomped the dying man’s face until he stopped moving, and the pair made away with his 2006 Toyota Passo and two mobile phones.

Haunting details of the savage attack were aired in court this week, as Lewis pleaded guilty in the High Court at Napier on Friday.

She will be sentenced in July, while Karauria has already been sentenced to life behind bars with a minimum non-parole period of 12 years.

Last year, Lewis first met the young Indian immigrant – an IT professional and student – through dating application Tinder.

The pair met on two occasions before the third fatal date.

Lewis used Mr Dhiman and another Indian immigrant – also from Tinder – to drive her and friends around Hawke’s Bay, on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island.

On December 16 Mr Dhiman gifted a brand new Samsung phone to Lewis.

She reportedly revealed to her friend that she was planning, with Karauria, to murder Mr Dhiman for his 2006 Toyota Passo.

Text messages sent on December 17 revealed the partners’ sick plan for the car theft. Karauria texted Lewis saying:  ‘We have got you a new car then cousin’

That afternoon, Mr Dhiman cooked Lewis and her friend a meal at his home – totally unaware that he would soon be stabbed to death.

While at the house, the murderers continued to secretly text and concoct their plan.

Karauria asked: ‘Are we serious about this cous (sic),’ and Lewis responded: ‘Yo cousin I am’.

The gruesome text messages continued to escalate, as the pair organised to make Mr Dhiman drive 40 minutes away to Tutira.

‘Smash him up then ditch him,’ Karauria wrote.

Lewis replied: ‘And stab him too cousin up to u’

‘Yip make sure he can’t get back cous’.

At 8.25pm the pair and another male were picked up by Dhiman. Karauria sat in the front of the car, wielding a kitchen knife.

The texting continued throughout the car journey as Karauria wrote: ‘I’m gonna stop at the gorge and take a piss and then I while (sic) get him out of the car and stab him and then throw him over the cliff’

Lewis replied: ‘Where what not till u get the keys cousin’.

As they arrived at Matahorua road in Tutira, Lewis suggested that Dhiman go for a walk with Karauria.

Out of sight of the car, Karauria took out the knife and stabbed the victim nine times in the back, throat, heart and chest.

Dhiman tried to call for help before collapsing on the ground.

When the pair realised that Dhiman was still moving, Karauria returned to the dying man and kicked him in the head to make sure he was dead.

The next morning, Karauria tried to sell a car online for $1,500 and Dhiman’s mobile phone was traced to Lewis’ home.

Dhiman’s brutalised body was found by a truck driver on the same day.

Lewis has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on July 22.

She also pleaded guilty to the charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to rob a car and cellphone.

Last month, May 24, Karauria was sentenced to life in prison with a non-parole period of twelve-year by Justice Simon France.
