Side hustle ideas Australia: Woman organises for rich mums to earn $50/hr

‘Genius’ young woman reveals how a simple side hustle idea saw her paid an extra $2,400 a month from ‘rich suburban mums’

  • Emily Brogan had her sights set on moving to London from Brisbane
  • She had rich mums hire her to organise their wardrobes for $50 per hour

A young woman has revealed how she made an extra $600 a week with a simple side hustle that saw ‘rich suburban mums’ pay her $50 per hour.

Emily Brogan is an ambitious woman and had her sights set on moving to London from her hometown, Brisbane.

She was already working a retail job for 38 hours a week, but started an organising business on the side to bring in extra cash.

Emily joined neighbourhood Facebook groups for wealthy suburbs in her city and explained her plight about wanting to move overseas.

Dozens of mums soon came to her aid – with many simply requiring her to untangle a bunch of necklaces at her usual rate of $50 an hour.

Emily soon made enough money and was able to move to London much quicker because of her part-time business.

The Brisbane woman did not attend university and primarily made money with various retail and hospitality jobs before she started her organising side hustle.

She explained her situation in a now-viral video.

‘About a year ago, I started a side hustle where I posted on Facebook pages for prestigious suburbs and asking for work.

‘I’m very driven, I’d set my mind to moving to London, and I needed to make more money.

‘So, I’d post ads saying: ‘I have extreme OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and I love organising. I have a dream to move to London. If you want to help me, you can hire me for $50/hour to organise and colour coordinate your wardrobes, linen, shoes, or pantry’.’

Emily did not think anyone would take her up on the offer because most wages in Australia are within the $20-$30 range.

‘I was charging double time, I was charging for a bank holiday,’ she joked.

‘But I was immediately inundated with rich mums wanting to help me live out my dream.

‘I ended up getting booked out all the time – I was working 38 hours a week doing retail, and 12 extra hours working my side hustle.

‘It was such a good time, I was rocking up to these houses and untangling necklaces for 30 minutes for $50.’

Emily spent most of her time organising handbags and colour-coordinating wardrobes.

Many were awe-struck by Emily’s excellent idea.

‘That’s such a good side hustle, I might copy you,’ a woman said.

‘Smart little lady, I would actually pay for someone to come over and sort out my room. It’s just a mess, I can’t deal with it,’ another wrote.

‘I’m going to do this to fund my Euro summer – that’s so amazing,’ a woman said.

Another added: ‘Brilliant, that’s actually more than I was getting paid as a junior doctor.’
