Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns emerges after two weeks living at a notorious fetish sex dungeon 

1999: At the age of 12, Daniel Johns and school friends Ben Gillies and Chris Joeannaou formed a band originally called ‘The Innocent Criminals’ in Newcastle, NSW.

1994: A demo recording of their song Tomorrow won a competition run by SBS program Nomad and changed their name to Silverchair.

In the same year the group signed a three-album deal with Sony.

1995: Silverchair released their first album Frogstomp in 1995 after Tomorrow sat at the No.1 position on Australian singles chart for six weeks.

1997: The band released their second album Freak Show, which was nominated for the 1997 ARIA Music Award for Best Group.

1999: The third album, Neon Ballroom, was released.

2000: Johns recorded a five-track EP called I Can’t Believe It’s Not Rock with dance musician/producer Paul Mac, who called themselves The Dissociatives.

2002: The fourth studio album, Diorama, was released and won the ARIA Music Award for Best Group and Best Rock Album.

2004: An album, The Dissociatives, was released by John and Mac’s duo of the same name. 

2005: The side-project won Best Video at the 2004 ARIA Music Awards for Somewhere Down the Barrel.

2005: Johns and Silverchair reunited and announced production of a new album.

2007: Young Modern was released and was followed by the Across the Great Divide tour alongside Powderfinger.

2008: It was announced that Johns was working on another side project with Luke Steele but was never released.

2008: Johns was named as the producer of The Scare’s album.

2011: Silverchair announced the band was going into ‘indefinite hibernation’ because ‘the spark simply isn’t there between the three of us at the moment’.

2012: Johns collaborated with the Australian Chamber Orchestra to create the soundtrack Atlas for a Qantas Airlines commercial before the 2012 Olympics.

2012: Johns wrote and recorded music with pop duo The Veronicas for their third album.

2014: Johns co-wrote the song Impossible by Australian rapper 360 and sang on the song’s chorus.

2015: Johns debuted a song as a solo artist on 29 January 2015 on Triple J called Aerial Love.

2015: Aerial Love was a song on a four-track EP released on March 13, 2015 and the song peaked at No.21 on the Australian Singles Chart.

2015: On May 22, 2015, Johns released a 15-track debut album as a solo artist called Talk, which peaked at No.2 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

2016: Johns collaborated with Perth duo Slumberjack on their song Open Fire and featured in the music video.

2017: Johns worked with ZHU on the track Modern Conversation.

2018: Collaborated with What So Not in the album Not All The Beautiful Things.

2018: Teamed up with Luke Steele to form DREAMS and released the single No One Defeats Us, with an album of the same name released in September 2018.
