Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns nominated for Song of the Year at the 2023 APRA Music Awards after failing to crack the Hottest 100
Daniel Johns has been nominated for Song of the Year at the 2023 APRA Music Awards.
The 43-year-old Silverchair frontman scored the nod for his solo single, I Feel Electric.
Other artists vying for the honour, which is voted by 3000 local songwriters, include DJ Flume and Julia Jacklin, rockers King Stingray and the late Archie Roach.
The nomination for Johns comes as a surprise since the song was not rated highly enough to crack Triple J’s Hottest 100 listeners poll earlier this year.
Flume, 31, whose real name is Harley Edward Streten, has been nominated for his hit Say Nothing, a collaboration with Aussie singer MAY-A.

The electro-pop ballad scored the number 1 spot in the Hottest 100 in January.
Pop star Julia Jacklin landed a best song nomination for her hit Lydia Wears A Cross, while King Stingray’s catchy Lupa also scored a spot in the same category.
King Stigray, who come from Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory, have also been nominated for Breakthrough Songwriters of the Year.
Archie Roach, who died in July 2022, aged 66, was recognised for for his fan favourite song, One Love.

Meanwhile, music legend Jimmy Barnes and his wife Jane have earned an APRA nomination for Most Performed Rock Song for their hit, Around in Circle.
The pair co-wrote the tune with Jimmy and Jane’s brother-in-law, Mark Lizotte, better known as Diesel, 56.
The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber, meanwhile, have cracked the Most Performed Australian Work category with a nomination for their hit Stay.
Other songs in the same category include – Vance Joy’s Charity, Growing Up Is ___ by Ruel, Dean Lewis’ Hurtless and On My Knees by RÜFÜS DU SOL.
