The Inbetweeners’ Simon Bird looks unrecognisable with a bowl haircut and bushy beard as he films Channel 4 comedy Everyone Else Burns in Cheshire

Simon Bird looked unrecognisable as he continued to film a new Channel 4 series, Everyone Else Burns, in Cheshire on Friday, a comedy set within a Christian sect.

The Inbetweeners star, 37, sported a bowl haircut and busy beard as he shot scenes with his co-star Kate O’Flynn, who wore a brown velvet jacket and a navy maxi skirt.

Simon – who is best known for playing Will McKenzie – hardly resembled the awkward schoolboy he once portrayed as he donned a grey suit.

Other cast members alongside Simon include Kate (David’s wife Fiona), Amy James-Kelly, Kadiff Kirwan and Harry Connor.

The six-part series, set to air in late 2022, follows a Mancunian family attempting to protect themselves from eternal hell fire while living in a modern world.

David Lewis (Simon) is determined to become an Elder of the church, in the coming-of-age story in a hyper-religious community.

Simon, who has also played Adam Goodman in Friday Night Dinner, is best known for his role in the Inbetweeners.

The show ran for three series from 2008 – 2010 and launched the careers of Simon and fellow actors Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison.

The series spawned two spin-off movies, released in 2011 and 2014, both proving to be box-office hits.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Simon was asked if he would ever return to his role as the much-loved briefcase w****r.

He replied: ‘It’s a hard no, I’m afraid. It just wouldn’t be the show people want or remember. Much better to leave it as a happy memory.

‘Cut to us all doing a third film for Netflix next year … Anything’s possible. Honestly, you can’t trust a single word I’ve said in this interview. It’s all filler, no killer.’

When asked if he could reshoot one episode of the show which would it be, he responded: ‘The Field Trip episode of Inbetweeners it is.

‘A beautiful location, fish and chips on the beach, watching one of my closest friends, Joe Thomas, almost dying of hypothermia. What could be better?’
