Simon Cowell says his ‘Mr Nasty’ persona was created by American Idol producers and insists he’s not grumpy in real life

He’s become famous for his ‘Mr Nasty’ personality on television.

But Simon Cowell, 58, has confessed he’s not like that normally – and the persona was something that US producers at American Idol thought would work well.

He told the Sunday Mirror: ‘I was not grumpy the whole time.

‘They just decided, the producers, it would be ­funnier to make me looking miserable and it was sort of an accident.

‘I found the process so miserable, I hated it.’

He added that he did not expect the show, which he quit in 2010, to be such a success.

The pair then welcomed their son Eric in February 2014. They named him after Simon’s late father, who died in 1999.

The TV personality is said to have visited cosmetic surgeon Dr Jean-Louis Sebagh, known as the ‘Picasso of dermatology’, for a Silhouette Soft Lift, which promises to create a more ‘youthful’ appearance.

Simon revealed: ‘There’s lots of things you can do now, you don’t just have to stuff your face with filler and Botox.

‘It hurts like hell but it gets rid of sun damage and unplugs all the c**p. For me now, it’s all about having clean skin, if you have clean skin, you look better.’
