The brother of Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles has pleaded not guilty Friday to charges stemming from a shooting that killed three in Ohio on New Year’s Eve.

Tevin Biles-Thomas appeared on video as his lawyer spoke to the Cleveland courtroom for his murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault and perjury charges.

A judge ordered that he be held on $1 million bond and have no contact with the surviving victims.

Biles-Thomas sat in silence in an orange-jumpsuit with his head rested on the wall as his lawyer spoke, occasionally looking over documents that she handed to him while speaking to the courtroom.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, CNN reports.

On August 29, Biles-Thomas was arrested in Georgia over a New Year’s Eve shooting in Cleveland.

The shooting occurred shortly before midnight in December at an AirBnB rental apartment above a pizza shop in Cleveland’s Brooklyn Center neighborhood.

Police say a fight broke out when uninvited guests arrived at a party being thrown in the apartment.

Devaughn Gibson, 23, DelVaunte Johnson, 19, and Toshon Banks, 21, were found dead at the scene. They each suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Two others were injured in the shooting, including a 21-year-old man who was shot in the back of the head and a 23-year-old woman who was shot in the arm.

Police said the shooter or shooters had fled by the time they arrived and no weapons were recovered at the scene.

Biles-Thomas went to high school in Cleveland and is currently in the U.S. Army. He is the only person to be charged over the shooting.

It is not yet clear what investigative steps led homicide detectives to suspect Biles-Thomas some nine months after the shooting.

In 2016, Biles’ mother Shanon told Dailymail.com that her family were forced to step in and help care for her four young children due to her drug and alcohol addictions.

They had spent their early years in and out of foster care in Ohio before Simone, then six, and sister Adria, were adopted by their maternal grandfather, Ronald Biles, and his wife Nellie.

Shanon’s eldest son and daughter, Tevin and Ashley, were taken in by Ronald’s sister and are thought to have been raised in Cleveland.

Earlier this month, Simone Biles tweeted a statement, adding that she was ‘still having a hard time processing last week’s news’.

In the post, the 22-year-old said: ‘My heart aches for everyone involved, especially for the victims and their families. There is nothing that I can say that will heal anyone’s pain, but I do want to express my sincere condolences to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy as we deal with our pain. XO’
