Simone Biles shows off her abs in an orange bikini as she hosts a pool party for her gymnast pals

Simone Biles may be best known for achieving seemingly-impossible heights on the gymnastics floor – but on Thursday, she took some time away from tumbling to soak up the sunshine at her sprawling Texas home.

The 24-year-old hosted a pool party for several of her gymnastics pals at her stunning mansion in Spring, while enjoying a day off from her grueling national schedule for the Athleta-sponsored Gold Over America Tour (GOAT).

Clearly keen to make the most of her time away from the gym, Simone ditched her leotards in favor of a bold one-shouldered orange bikini, which allowed her to flaunt her ripped abs and athletic figure.

Biles is due to perform in her hometown of Houston on Friday evening, allowing her the opportunity to spend some time in her own home – and to sneak in a night out on the town with her boyfriend, NFL star Jonathan Owens.

While Jonathan, 26, does not appear to have joined Simone and her friends for their pool day, the gymnast posted a video of the football player sitting alongside her at dinner later in the evening, which they enjoyed with two of her friends.

In the video, the group’s table is seen covered in margarita flights and baskets of tortilla chips, suggesting that they were preparing to enjoy some Mexican food.

Simone neglected to share photos or videos of herself at dinner, but she made up for the lack of supper selfie earlier in the day by posting several snaps of herself and her friends kicking back and relaxing in the water.

In one Boomerang, Biles filmed herself playing with her sunglasses while standing in the pool, while another joking post captures her sitting on the edge of the water with a hand up in the air – a snap that she captioned: ‘Mood.’

The Olympian was joined by the likes of Tokyo teammate Jordan Chiles, 20, French gymnast Mélanie Jesus dos Santos, 21, and Canadian star Ellie Black, 26, as well as dancers Emily Bartlett, Trinity Bonilla, and Sierra Fujita, all of whom appear alongside Simone on her Athleta-sponsored tour.

In a series of social media posts, the women are seen hanging out in the pool, lying on fun-colored floaties, snapping selfies, and spending time with Simone’s beloved dogs – who also took the chance to cool off in the turquoise pool.

No doubt the fun-filled day off came as something of a relief to the performers, who have spent the last month traveling across the West Coast, performing to large crowds in Arizona, California, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado.

Following their one-night appearance in Houston, the tour will then continue on to Fort Worth, before moving to Arkansas for one night, and then fulfilling commitments in a variety of states, including Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and New York.

The tour kicked off on September 21, just days after Simone traveled to Washington, D.C. to give a moving testimony at a Senate hearing into the FBI’s handling of the Larry Nassar abuse case.

During the hearing Simone, who was joined by fellow Olympians and Nassar victims McKayla Maroney and Aly Raisman, recounted her own trauma in a hearing over the agency’s failure to promptly investigate allegations against Nassar.

In her statement before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Simone said that she ‘should have never been left alone,’ citing the abuse she was subjected to during one-on-one medical appointments with the convicted pedophile.

‘I will close with one final thought. The scars of this horrific abuse continue to live with all of us,’ she concluded her testimony.

‘As the lone competitor at the recent Tokyo Games who was a survivor of this horror, I can assure you that the impacts of this man’s abuse are not ever over or forgotten.’

Simone added that while the postponement of the Tokyo Games in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic gave her time to heal, she still very much carries trauma from the sexual abuse she experienced when she was just a teenager.

‘The announcement in the spring of 2020 that the Tokyo Games were to be postponed for a year meant that I would be going to the gym, to training, to therapy, living daily, among the reminders of this story for another 365 days.

‘As I have stated in the past, one thing that helped me push each and every day was the goal of not allowing this crisis to be ignored. I worked incredibly hard to make sure that my presence could maintain a connection between the failures and the competition at Tokyo 2020.’

Simone went into the Tokyo Olympics heavily tipped to claim gold in almost every single event – while many believed that she would propel the US to its third consecutive gold medal in the women’s team final.

However, the gymnast’s quest for Olympic glory was blighted in the early days of competition, when she made a shock withdrawal from the team event after just one event – the vault, during which she made a very dangerous fumble.

The team went on to lose out on the gold to Russia, while Simone later revealed that she was suffering from mental health issues that prompted her to pull out of four other event finals: the all-around, the vault, the uneven bars, and the floor exercise.

Simone faced brutal online backlash in the wake of her withdrawal, with some accusing her of ‘quitting’ and ‘abandoning’ her teammates – however she quickly hit back, revealing that she was suffering from a serious mental issue called the ‘twisties’ which causes gymnasts to feel as though they are ‘lost in the air’ and can result in severe injuries if untreated.

The gymnast returned to competition for the final individual event – the balance beam – during which she won silver.

Following her appearance at the Senate’s hearing about the Nassar abuse case, Simone told New York Magazine that she ‘should have quit gymnastics way before Tokyo’, admitting that the trauma of the abuse became ‘too much’ for her to handle in the lead-up to the Olympics.

‘If you looked at everything I’ve gone through for the past seven years, I should have never made another Olympic team,’ she said. ‘I should have quit way before Tokyo, when Larry Nassar was in the media for two years. It was too much.
