Sinead O’Connor sits in for interview with Dr. Phil

Sinead O’Connor opened up in a heartbreaking new interview with Dr. Phil about her thoughts on her reputation and dark past.

The Grammy-winning Irish singer revealed in the preview clip released Thursday: ‘I a fed up of being defined as the crazy person; the child abuse survivor.’

O’Connor lost her mother in a car crash at the young age of 19. She remembered her as a violent, tormented woman who enjoyed inflicting pain upon her.

When Dr. Phil asked the ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ crooner what she loved most about her late mom, O’Connor responded: ‘That she’s dead.’

In the raw interview, set to premiere Tuesday, the music star talked plans to change her legal name and start a new life.

McGraw applauded her for being forthright about the stigmatized issue of mental health.

‘For you to have the courage to candidly and openly talk about this gives others the courage to come forward and seek the help they need,’ he said.

‘I’m really sorry it took me this long to find you,’ he added in the teaser. O’Connor replied, ‘I’m so happy that you did.’

O’Connor, 50, was hospitalized last month after she posted a tearful and concerning video August 3 revealing her longtime struggle with depression and suicidal tendencies.

She said in the Facebook clip she was living by herself in a $70-a-night Travelodge motel at the ‘a*** end of New Jersey’ and fighting day to day to stay sane and alive.

The clip gained an enormous about of public attention from worried fans who rushed to the motel in attempts to help. Local police were also involved.

An individual close to O’Connor later posted an update to the star’s Facebook page writing, ‘Hi everybody, I am posting at Sinead’s request, to let everyone who loves her know she is safe, and she is not suicidal.

‘She is surrounded by love and receiving the best of care. She asked for this to be posted knowing you are concerned for her. I won’t respond to any questions, so please understand. I hope this comforts those of you were concerned.’

O’Connor received outpouring love and encouragement from friends and fans.

‘I go to bed every night worried about you,’ one person wrote. ‘I wake up and tentatively log onto Facebook because of my worry for you.’

Another wrote: ‘To Sinead’s kids get over and help your mother, she is crying out for you all, forget what has happened and forgive, keep forgiving her until you get over there and give her a hug.’

Keith Kaulfers, a guest staying at the Travelodge motel, said he thought O’Connor ‘would stay at a much nicer place — a hotel, five stars, things like that.’

And Hamilton Richard, who is visiting the US from England, told NorthJersey.com that he was ‘100 per cent’ surprised to hear about O’Connor being at the hotel.

‘I’d be very confused not just surprised that she’s here,’ Richard said, adding that the area of New Jersey was ‘very different, but not an a**e’.
