On Monday, he underwent a follow-up surgery but since then his condition has worsened, the ministry said.

The Ministry has made arrangements for Pang’s parents and brother to fly to New Zealand to be by his side, who arrived on Monday.

On Wednesday, the medical team at Waikato Hospital announced that Pang’s condition worsened and once again required additional surgery.

The ministry described Pang as an ‘Operationally Ready National Serviceman’ indicating that he had completed his full-time service.

He is described as an armament technician and his rank is corporal first class.
