A young mother was arrested on Monday for allegedly leaving her four-year-old daughter in a locked car for more than an hour while she looked for work at a job fair in Florida.

Amber Collier, 25, reportedly left the girl in the car around 10.30am when she went inside a Sam’s Club, according to Miramar police.

Authorities said they responded to a 911 call from the store’s staff about a child being locked inside a car.

Officers arrived to the scene around 11.40am where they found the girl ‘visibly upset’ in the car.

Police said the car was left on and the air conditioner was cooling the vehicle.

According to WPLG, Collier is a single mother who goes to college part time. Her attorney said her schooling is paid for through financial aid.

‘Financially, right now, she’s going through a tough time and she wants to work,’ he said.

She was attending a job fair at the Sam’s Club with hopes of finding work when she reportedly left the child in the vehicle.

Authorities said the child was also left with ‘a cellphone to contact the police if there was an emergency’.

Collier is facing a child neglect charge over the incident. Her bond was set at $2,500.

A judge also ordered that she not have contact with her child pending the outcome of a family court hearing.
