Single women have been revealing the careers most likely to put them off a man in an online thread, and some of them are rather unexpected.
While many of the women commenting on the Reddit thread said they’d be put off by a man who earned a living doing ‘anything illegal’, or who wasn’t employed at all, others revealed they’d be reluctant to date a pilot, a soldier, or even a doctor.
One woman explained that the long hours that come with a career in medicine would put her off, as she’d never see her partner, while others said a husband in the military or police force would leave them constantly ‘worried’.

This woman revealed how she wouldn’t get into a relationship with a fellow doctor because it would be impossible to balance their work schedules
Surprisingly, many lucrative careers were among the ones mentioned, including doctors and bankers.
One woman explained: ‘I’m finishing up medical school. I want to come home and not think about patients or procedures. I don’t want to try and maintain a relationship around two 80-hour work schedules.’
Finance put one woman off because of the personality type she believes it attracts.
She explained: ‘High level, strategic sales positions, especially in finance. Men I’ve met who do this work have impossible huge and concrete egos, incredible manipulation skills, and are not afraid to count someone they love as collateral damage to get something else they want.’
Others said that they’d be too worried and fearful to have a partner in the armed forces or police.

A lot of women replying to the thread were against dating men who worked in careers with long hours or that required them to sacrifice family time
‘I respect people within that field but I couldn’t date/marry someone while constantly worrying if I would be widowed within the next couple years.
‘Not only that, but I’ve met a lot of men who get this weird superiority complex while in the military,’ she said.
Another user said having a career at all was vital but shared her distaste at men working as strippers: ‘No career. Not being able to hold a job is a major red flag.
Another woman with experience of dating a stripper said it had put her off for life.

One woman pointed out the importance of any potential partner having a career at all – although she did say she was against dating a stripper
‘I’m not against the job in and of itself, but I dated and even nearly married a stripper in my younger and dumber days and that lifestyle/mindset is something I’d never want to experience again,’ she revealed.
And an animal-lover shared shared how she couldn’t date someone working in the meat industry.
‘Slaughterhouse or really anything dealing with animals beyond taking care of them and loving them,’ she said.
‘I couldn’t be with someone knowing they harmed animals for a living. Even if they did it with mercy, I would just feel so heartbroken thinking about their job. Also, I don’t think I could be morally compatible with someone who could do a job like that.’

As well as finance being a popular deal breaker for several women, the Reddit users were against dating people in the military and those who worked in the meat industry
