Sir Paul McCartney, 79, discovers Instagram filters as he introduces fans to his ‘new heavy metal folk band’


Sir Paul McCartney spent New Year’s Day learning new tricks.

The musician, 79, discovered Instagram filters as he rang in 2022 on social media, sharing his ‘new band’ with his 3.7million followers.

Sir Paul joked that he’d bumped into the myriad of characters at his NYE celebrations as he donned an array of different filters and put on accents.

Quipping the new band was called Linstrom, the Beatles legend said they were a heavy metal folk music act, consisting of four artists and a boozy unnamed manager. 

Olga, the frontwoman, wears red plairs under a hat while an anonymous keyboardist with wings and a halo says: ‘I am getting a little bit too old for this game.’

There’s also Trinket the bass player who claims the ‘band is so heavy we rock ’til dawn,’ while Mac the boorish boar-ish drummer with a pig nose ‘whacks the hell out of them skins and makes a ruddy good noise.’

The star turns 80 in June but recently revealed he doesn’t feel the milestone age, quipping: ‘I’m 25 years actually.’  

The When I’m 64 songwriter said of his advancing age during an interview with Sirius XM: ‘Hey, I can’t believe I’m a grandparent!’

‘I mean, I’m 25 years old actually, I just look older, and I think my birth certificate was falsified.’

Asked what gives his life meaning, Sir Paul replied: ‘Family. I have eight grandchildren, a fantastic wife, lovely kids, and I think that is definitely the focus.’  

He also insisted he has less insecurities now he’s getting older, explaining: ‘I think I’ve kind of worked most of them out, and I don’t think there are any.’

‘But you’re just still this little person inside this body with all these thoughts that nobody else knows about.’
