Sir Rod Stewart, 77, fills potholes near his Essex home as his ‘Ferrari can’t get through’

Sir Rod Stewart got to work on Saturday as he helped fill potholes near his home in Harlow, Essex after claiming ‘no-one can be bothered to do it.’

In two Instagram videos, the singer, 77, ditched his microphone for a spade and a high-vis vest as he recruited his pals in repairing the damaged road.

Speaking in the video while shovelling gravel into the large holes, Rod noted that there had been several incidents on the road, with the rocker also quipping ‘My Ferrari can’t go through here at all!’

Taking matters into his own hands: Sir Rod Stewart got to work on Saturday as he helped fill potholes near his home in Harlow, Essex after claiming ‘no-one can be bothered to do it’

In the clip, the star is seen mucking in as he takes matters into his own hands after growing tired of the state of the road.

He said: ‘I’m repairing the street where I live as no-one can be bothered to do it. Me and my mates.’

The camera then panned around to show Rod’s team shovelling gravel before showing the road which was full of large puddle-filled holes.

In a second clip, the Maggie May hitmaker said: ‘This is the state of the road near where I live in Harlow and it’s been like this for ages.

‘People are smashing their cars up. The other day, there was an ambulance with a burst tyre. My Ferrari can’t go through here at all!’

He continued: ‘So me and the boys thought we would come and do it ourselves. We are filling the holes while millions and millions of pounds have been spent on the M11.’

The veteran singer, dressed in an Adidas tracksuit and green trainers, captioned the post: ‘Working for a living, filling holes is good for the soul!’

The post was garnered with several supportive messages from his followers, though one fan warned him not to hurt himself as they had tickets for his concert in June.

Rod’s community efforts comes after he dressed up to the nines on Thursday night as he and wife Penny Lancaster, 50, attended Annabel’s 70s themed fourth anniversary party.

The performer cut a dapper figure in an embroiled blazer while his special constable wife put on a very leggy display in a silver sequinned mini dress at the bash which payed homage to the iconic Studio 54 nightclub.

Rod and Penny ensured they were suitably dressed for the disco era, with the Maggie May hitmaker dazzling in his silver and black floral print jacket and sparkly embellished shoes.

Rod rounded off his look with a white shirt and a selection of diamond encrusted cross pendants.

Meanwhile, not to be outdone, Penny proved just why she’s a successful model as she showcased her endless pins in a thigh-skimming mini dress.

The Loose Women star teamed her silver number with white boots, a metallic clutch and sparkling drop earrings.

Penny had also earlier arrived covered up in an extravagant white fur coat which she soon whipped off to pose for the cameras.

The stunner rounded off her show-stopping look with voluminously blow-dried locks and a glam palette of make-up including shimmering blue eye-shadow.

The A-list couple were certainly having a grand time at their favourite haunt as they rubbed shoulders with the likes of Naomi Campbell and newly-wed Edward Enninful.
