Six people have been injured after an explosion at an industrial business in Sydney’s west.

It is believed one man was refuelling a diesel engine water compressor when it exploded.

The man suffered burns to his arms and face and was airlifted by helicopter to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

Two more men were taken to nearby hospitals in similar conditions and a further three men were treated for smoke inhalation.

Security camera footage obtained by Channel 9 showed a sudden burst of flames appear from behind a pile of tyres, before smoke started billowing above.

One brave worker could be seen trying to remove a car from the explosion site as smoke covered his forklift truck.

Inspector James Grey from NSW Ambulance said some of the victims had serious burns to their upper body and airways.

A NSW Ambulance said multiple road crews were dispatched along with a CareFlight helicopter, and the victims were treated by paramedics on Victoria Street.

A crime scene was established to investigate the cause of the blast and Worksafe NSW were notified.

The blast is not thought to be suspicious, police said.
