Two bomb threats caused the evacuation of a Melbourne hospital this morning.

Sixty patients and staff from Epworth Hawthorn were moved to a nearby park.

An Epworth Healthcare spokeswoman said police were immediately notified after the threats were made by telephone shortly after 8am on Tuesday.

‘Sixty patients and staff were evacuated … they are safe and have food, drink and blankets,’ she said.

Police also evacuated surrounding buildings and train services at the nearby Hawthorn Station were affected as well as tram services in the area.

The exclusion zone includes the area around Epworth Hawthorn on Burwood Road between Barton Street and Evansdale Road.

Approximately two hours later, Victoria Police gave the all-clear for patients and team members to return to the hospital.

Metro Trains advised that services were also back up and running but that passengers in the area should expect delays while they recover.

The exact nature of the threat remains unclear.
