Sledgehammer-wielding raiders smash their way into Louis Vuitton store where handbags sell for more than £2,000

  • It is located in Manchester’s city centre and boxes are strewn outside 

A Louis Vuitton store where handbags sell for more than £2,000 was smashed into by sledgehammer-wielding raiders this morning.

Pictures show boxes strewn across the floor outside the luxury clothing store in Exchange Square, Manchester city centre.

A police car can also been seen parked outside the shop, while officers search for clues outside the shop.

As police begin combing the ground outside for clues one officer was seen holding a sledgehammer. It was found among boxes strewn outside the store

The incident is understood to have taken in the early hours of this morning although it is not yet clear whether anything was taken.

Other shops along the street including luxury clothing brands Paul Smith, Burberry and Harvey Nichols appear to have not been targeted in the raid.

Many shocked people walking to walk have shared images and video clips of the mess outside the shop this morning.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘Casually walking to work to find Louis Vuitton in Manchester’s been robbed. All cornered off on Cathedral St…Those poor bags.’

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment by MailOnline but no further details have been released at this stage.

Louis Vuitton has also been contacted.
