SNL’s Pete Davidson gets a makeover from Queer Eye’s Tan France

SNL cast member Pete Davidson got the ultimate makeover from Queer Eye’s fashion expert Tan France, in an attempt to woo his girlfriend Cazzie David and her ‘cool family’—which includes her father Larry David.

Pete, 24, and Tan, one of the five lifestyle connoisseurs featured in the hit Netflix show, visited Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City to pick out a few new outfits for the comedian.

Queer Eye, a revamped version of Bravo’s Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, which aired from 2003 to 2007, sees Tan, along with four other experts, give makeovers to other men—and Pete got to benefit from Tan’s expertise in his own segment.

‘I trust you way more than my Staten Island fashion knowledge,’ Pete told Tan in reference to his native borough, prompting the stylist to joke that this ‘explains so much’ about his personal style.

‘When you get dressed in the morning, you get out of the house, do you think “I look sexy?”‘ Tan asked Pete.

The SNL cast member promptly shot back ‘Never’, revealing he doesn’t have mirrors at home because he doesn’t ‘like’ his own face.

Prompted by Tan, Pete reflected more on his clothing choices and what drives them, and realized his tastes are still defined by what he viewed was ‘cool’ when he was a teenager.

‘That’s the last time I, like, grew up, clothing-wise,’ he said.

Pete showed up to his makeover session wearing blue camo print pants, which Tan thought were ‘massive’, before recommending Pete shrink them in the wash.

The comedian also donned a white T-shirt underneath a light denim shirt, as well as a baseball cap.

For Pete’s first outfit, Tan recommended a denim jacket rather than Pete’s denim shirt, explaining it would look more formal if he were to take his girlfriend out.

Pete and Cazzie have posted publicly about their relationship on Instagram since 2016, and have been open about their love for each other, with Pete crediting Cazzie for helping him stay sober.

‘That’s what I need,’ he said of Tan’s suggestion for a smarter outfit. ‘She has, like, a cool family and they all dress nice, and I have, like, a Super Mario Bros. T-shirt on.’

Tan told Pete his love of colorful clothing is ‘fine’, but advised him to keep things simple.

‘Don’t wear bright yellows, bright blues, bright pinks, bright oranges, that’s not the way to win them over,’ Tan said. ‘Again, we want to keep the girlfriend and not scare the family off.’

Pete eventually stepped out in his first makeover outfit, wearing black pants, tan shoes, a white T-shirt, and a denim jacket picked out by Tan.

‘I feel like Timothee Chalamet,’ he said, referring to the star of Call Me By Your Name.

His second outfit consisted of a graphic T-shirt, which Pete tends to like, a pink bomber jacket, and dark pants, all selected by Pete’s fellow SNL cast member Heidi Gardner.

Pete’s transformation, however, really took shape with his third and last outfit, which consisted in a darker denim jacket, black pants, a white T-shirt, and an elegant, simple olive green coat.

‘I think I look like I could take a meeting somewhere. I look like I maybe run a business,’ he said.

Tan then asked him what he thought Cazzie would say seeing him in the outfit, and Pete predicted she would tell him that she had no idea he could look like that.

‘Cool upgrade,’ he added before pulling Tan in for a hug.
