Snubbed Socceroo Tim Cahill’s classy reaction to being left on the bench in Russia

After Australia’s one all draw against Denmark in the World Cup some players have praised the selflessness of Socceroos star Tim Cahill who has been riding the bench.

Socceroos defender Mark Milligan praised Cahill as a selfless team member with the utmost ‘professionalism’.

Many Socceroos fans have been vocal about the exclusion of Cahill on the pitch during Australia’s first two games against France and Denmark however the team remains in harmony.

Tim Cahill (far left) has ridden the bench for Australia’s first two games in the 2018 FIFA World Cup but is still integral to team morale

‘All the talk about Timmy and everything, you guys don’t see what we see in camp,’ Milligan told media after the Socceroos most recent training session.

‘While I’m sure undoubtedly he’s frustrated that he’s not had his shot yet the amount of help that he gives to the players around him, including talking today to the group before training, he’s unbelievable.’

Cahill himself took to Twitter after Australia’s draw against Denmark to praise the efforts of his team mates.

‘Massive effort by the lads today against Denmark. Team performance was fantastic and gutted we couldn’t get all 3 points,’ he wrote.

‘Special mention to the fans today, amazing support and the stadium was rocking. Time to pack up here in Samara and head back to Kazan to prepare for Peru.’

Cahill has been a star for the Socceroos for a number of years, bursting into the mainstream when Australia made the 2006 FIFA World Cup where he became the first ever Australian to score a goal at the tournament.

He has scored a total of five World Cup goals, including that first ever against Japan in 2006.

However whispers are already surrounding the Australian camp that Cahill could make the team in Australia’s upcoming game against Peru, a must win, after first-choice striker Andrew Nabbout suffered a shoulder injury against Denmark.

‘What happens on Tuesday I’m not sure, but what I do know is if Timmy is called upon he’ll be more than ready,’ Milligan said.

In their next game the Socceroos have to defeat Peru and would still need Denmark to lose to France just to be in with a statistical chance of advancing from the group stage.

Australia would then need a two goal turnaround to beat out Denmark on goal difference in their group, for example France would have to beat Denmark by at least a goal and Australia would have to defeat Peru by at least a single goal.
