Social media perplexed after Steve Burley STAYS on Married At First Sight

‘He’s here for Instagram’: Social media perplexed after Steve Burley STAYS on Married At First Sight despite ‘wife’ Mishel Karen wanting out

He allegedly had a list of things he banned his ‘wife’ Mishel Karen, 48, from saying on Married At First Sight.

And despite it coming to light on Sunday’s episode – and Mishel voting to leave the experiment – Steve decided to stay.

Now fans of Channel Nine’s ratings juggernaut have taken to social media to question why the barbershop owner, 51, has decided to stick around.

‘Steve totally just here for the gram,’ joked one MAFS fan on Twitter.

While another said, ‘Gawd, Steve just wanting another 5 mins of TV time – as if you’d stay in that relationship.’

‘He needs to milk it.. Perfect Match was over in his teens…’ said another.

On Sunday night’s commitment ceremony, Mishel made a stunning revelation.

‘I am very aware of the way you try to control me… I have a list of stuff,’ she told Steve in front of her fellow MAFS participants.

The mother-of-two then said: ‘I’m not allowed to swear among my words. I’m not allowed to say I’m going to wee or poo, I have to say I’m going to use the bathroom.’

In response, Steve said: ‘… If she wants to swear, the reason I said I don’t appreciate that is if the words are directed at me.’

He added: ‘Yes there are certain things that I’m not doing right, but I’m not perfect.

‘I have been on my own for so long that I’ve maybe started to think that what I’m doing is always the right thing, but I know it’s not.’

After Mishel chose to leave the experiment, Steve chose to stay, meaning she’s now forced to spend another week by his side to try and work things out.

He explained: ‘When I wrote my vows, I said too many people give up too quickly – let’s not be those people. I think there is something worth fighting for here.’

Married At First Sight continues Monday at 7:30pm on Channel Nine.
