Social Studies teacher, 54, busted for having sex with the same girl who sexted Anthony Weiner

Social Studies teacher Jonathan Busch, 54, was arrested Thursday for having sex with the same girl who sexted disgraced congressman Anthony Weiner when she was 15

A North Carolina teacher has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a minor – the same girl that exchanged sext messages with disgraced congressman Anthony Weiner.

Jonathan Busch, 54, was arrested Thursday for encounters that allegedly took place during his time as a social studies teacher at Lake Norman High School in 2016.

The Mooresville man has been charged with two counts of statutory rape of a child over the age of 15 and two counts of indecent liberties with a child under the age of 16.

His accuser, now 18, happens to be the same girl the New York Congressman had a months-long online sexual relationship with, according to WSOCTV.

Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in prison after his sexting relationship with the 15-year-old was exposed by Dailymail.com.

School officials clarified Friday that the encounters did not take place at Lake Norman High School and the victim did not attend the school.

The encounters took place between June 1 and July 31 2016 and again between September 1 to 21 that same year, when she was 15 according to the Mooresville Tribune.

In light of the allegations, Busch resigned from his teaching position earlier this week.

He was arrested in Gaston County, which is where Weiner’s teenage victim reportedly lives, and was released from prison Thursday after posting $20,000 bond.

Busch worked for Iredell-Statesville Schools since July 31, 2003.

‘Mr. Busch has cooperated with the authorities, however, due to the nature of these allegations, he has tendered his resignation as a teacher in Iredell-Statesville Schools,’ Superintendent Brady Johnson said in a letter to parents Friday.

‘Though the charges against Mr. Busch are extremely serious, I can assure you that the alleged incidents did not occur on the campus of Lake Norman High School nor involved any current or former Lake Norman High School students,’ he added.

It is not clear how Busch came into contact with the girl as she was not a pupil at his school.

Weiner’s relationship with the girl may play a pivotal role in Busch’s case.

The two had their sexual encounters around the same time that Weiner’s sexting scandal was making national headlines.

Former Gaston County Prosecutor Michael Neece says that the connection between the two cases will likely be investigated.

‘A defense lawyer is certainly going to be looking into that situation,’ Neece said to WSOCTV.

‘Sometimes it can become a trial within a trial,’ he added.

The victim’s second sexual misconduct case comes as no shock to child advocacy experts.

‘It’s a lot of sadness. There is so much trust that has been broken,’ Erin Weatherford-Famer, executive director for the Alliance for Children, said.

She added that going to court again will be tough on the victim who is ‘so vulnerable at that point’.
