An unlikely hero has appeared out of the smoke in Western Australia, handing out cans of coke to truck drivers trapped by encroaching flames.

The woman was providing relief to the many motorists who became stuck after roads were closed near Swan, north of Perth on Thursday.

The fire began just before 8am yesterday and burnt through 12 hectares of land around Bullsbrook before being brought under control by firefighters.

The woman was described as an ‘earth angel’ on social media after an image of the random act of kindness was posted to a WA community emergency response page.

The man who captured the moment said it showed the ‘true Aussie spirit lives’.

She wasn’t the only hero to emerge from the unfolding disaster in WA, with another woman identified online for a similar act of goodwill.

Naomi Clark, who works at the Bullsbrook Service Station spent $50 of her own money to provide refreshments to others who were trapped by the same fire.

She recruited her colleague to help her make sandwiches and packed them up with water and mixed lollies to hand out to the truck drivers, as well as police officers and fire-fighters at the RAAF base.

Naomi said as a local she wanted to help the community any way she could.

‘I’m just glad I put a smile on people’s faces with the hot weather we have,’ she said.

Meanwhile an emergency alert has been issued for a bushfire burning at Yanchep on the coast north of Perth.

Residents are being told to leave immediately to escape the blaze that has burnt more than 2,660 hectares of land.
