‘If we face Leicester like this, we will lose’: Sokratis demands Arsenal team-mates improve for Foxes clash or face certain defeat

  • Arsenal defender Sokratis believes the players are responsible for Wolves defeat
  • The Gunners lost 3-1 at Molineux on Wednesday, leaving Unai Emery’s side fifth
  • They are a point behind Chelsea with only three league matches remaining
  • Sokratis added if Arsenal repeat Wolves performance they will lose at Leicester

Arsenal defender Sokratis has spelt out a stark warning for his team by saying they will lose at Leicester on Sunday if they repeat their performance from Molineux.

Sokratis said the problem was with the players, who were overwhelmed by Wolves, rather than with manager Unai Emery or his tactics.

The 3-1 defeat left Arsenal in fifth, one point behind Chelsea with three games to play and with work to do to qualify for the Champions League.

‘We didn’t play good, it was a really bad game from us,’ said Sokratis.

‘The first half, the other team with the counter-attack had three or four chances and they scored three goals. After that it was very difficult for us to change the game.

‘Leicester is another difficult game. If we face it like this, we will lose. It’s clear. It is not the problem of the coach, the system, it is nothing. It is just us. All the players take responsibility. We are not stupid… We know that we didn’t play good.

‘It is not time to have excuses. We need to look forward. We need to win all the games an get nine points and we’ll see if we can be in the top four.

‘We have to win the next three games. I trust 100 per cent my team and the players and I think we can do it.’ Sokratis said Arsenal could not rely on winning the Europa League to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

‘We cannot wait only for our one chance,’ he said. ‘We have two chances and we have to fight for both.’
