Son of accused of stabbing his parents to death turned up to work with ‘blood on his shirt’

David Reid (pictured) called police to his home in Tudar Road, in Bonnet Bay, at around 8.30am on Tuesday threatening self-harm

A 46-year-old man accused of stabbing his parents to death turned up to work with blood on the back of his neck and shirt a week before the alleged attack.

David Reid was arrested after the bodies of his elderly parents Graham and Diana Reid, aged 71 and 75, were found in his home in Tudar Road, in Bonnet Bay, on Tuesday.

Reid, who has worked for casino gaming manufacturer Konami for the past 20 years, has reportedly battled mental health issues in the past.

Concerns were raised last week when Reid showed up at work acting ‘more strange than usual’.

He had ‘a noticeable amount of blood’ on the back of his neck and shirt collar when he arrived at his Botany office on Monday, a colleague told the Sydney Morning Herald.

The worker said no one wanted to ask him about the blood as his behaviour had changed.

Police described the scene where the body of Victor Graham Reid (pictured), 75, was found as 'very traumatic'

Police described the scene where the body of Victor Graham Reid (pictured), 75, was found as ‘very traumatic’

Reid was described as a ‘loner … who doesn’t talk a lot’ by colleagues.

He had reportedly taken months of mental health leave last year before he was moved from developing poker machine software to a creative arm of the company, which works on graphics and maths implementation.

However, Sutherland Superintendent Jason Box said police were not aware of any mental health issues.

Police were alerted to the alleged frenzied attack earlier this week when Reid called threatening self harm.

His parents were then found with stab wounds.

One body was found in the lounge and another in a bedroom.

Reid has been under police guard in Prince of Wales Hospital since his arrest.

He is expected to be charged once he is released from hospital.

Detective Superintendent Jason Box described the scene as being ‘very traumatic’.

‘Walking in and seeing that scenario was quite confronting,’ he said.

Counselling was offered to officers who attended the scene.

Neighbours say Reid had been living with his parents his entire life.

The family’s neighbour of 50 years, Lyn Howard, told the Sydney Morning Herald that on the day of the murder, Reid was sitting outside his house with ‘nothing on but his knickers’.

He was accompanied by police and was later seen handcuffed.

Mrs Howard said she was looking forward to catching up with her ‘coffee mate’, Dianne, who she affectionately called Di.

‘It’s terrible. I’m not quite with it at the moment,’ Mrs Howard said.

Superintendent Box said no weapons or items had been seized from the home.

Reid’s brother, Andrew, who is aged in his 40s, has been notified of the incident and is speaking with police at Sutherland Station.

Reid was a member of Miranda Toastmasters, who won ‘Best Speaker’ for a speech called ‘Boredom’ last month, news.com.au reported.

Mrs Howard described the Reid family as ‘very religious’ and were actively involved with the Jannali Anglican Church.
