Son of well-known MP is arrested after ‘breaking nurse’s arm while being treated on a psychiatric ward’

The son of a well-known MP was arrested after allegedly breaking a nurse’s arm while being treated on a psychiatric ward.

The alleged assault took place in a low-security part of the ward while medics were trying to get the man to take his medication, at 11.30pm on Wednesday last week.

A nurse, thought to be in his 40s, suffered a broken arm while trying to restrain the man, in his 20s, who is the son of a very well-known MP.

A source told The Sun: ‘There was a disturbance as staff were trying to give him his medication on the ward. A member of staff suffered a broken arm during the struggle to control him.

‘It was a distressing incident for all concerned and the police were called. 

‘The nature of the injury was such that it was felt the police should be called.’

Police confirmed with the newspaper they arrested a man on suspicion of assault. 

The man, who has not been named, was sectioned under the 1983 Mental Health Act last month after an incident at his family home.

He was undergoing further hospital tests and assessments when the alleged violent incident took place.
