Sophie Guidolin speaks out about her heartbreaking infant loss

Sophie Guidolin announced in January that she’d given birth to a stillborn baby after suffering horrific pregnancy symptoms.

Now, she has spoken out about her devastating loss nearly six months on.

The fitness influencer, 34, gave birth to her fifth child – a daughter she named Pixie – and has now said the stillbirth ‘changed her whole world forever’.

‘The first few months were horrific and beyond hard,’ she told 9Honey.

‘I laid in a dark room and just went through the motions. Cried myself to sleep. Cried while I was awake.’

The Gold Coast-based mother also revealed some of the most upsetting things people would say to her during the months following her loss.

‘I had people telling me to “be grateful you still have four kids”. And that I wasn’t “grieving correctly,”‘ she added.

Sophie, who has four children from a previous relationship, encountered serious health problems during her fifth pregnancy.

In January, she told fans she had been diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness.

While recovering from the condition in hospital, Sophie shared a post complaining about how lonely she felt without her then-husband, Dr Andrew Firgaira, by her side.

When quizzed by fans where her husband was, Sophie claimed he was overseas on a European holiday.

On January 8, Sophie shared a photo of herself in hospital on a drip after suffering severe nausea and vomiting

While Andrew was in Europe at the time, he has not verified Sophie’s claim the trip was a holiday, and it is possible he was there on a work trip.

He was joined on the trip by his two daughters from a previous relationship.

Sophie announced in late January her fifth child, a girl named Pixie, was stillborn.

‘I cannot begin to articulate my pain, grief and despair through my entire soul,’ she wrote in an emotional Instagram post, revealing she underwent a C-section.

‘I am trying to trust in God’s timing and I have always believed that the universe has my back and no matter how confusing this all feels, I am trying to make sense of this grief with my faith.

‘I feel so guilty for my thoughts prior and I would do anything to have that pain, over this harrowing experience. I don’t even have the words on how to write or how to comprehend this. Maybe some souls were always meant to be angels.’

Sophie announced her pregnancy in mid-December, just one month after marrying her Andrew. 

Andrew, a high-profile Gold Coast dentist, confirmed in March the pair had split, following weeks of rumours they had quietly ended their marriage just four months after their dream wedding.

But Sophie claimed that – contrary to rumours doing the rounds online – she was the one who ‘left’ her husband, not the other way around.
