Their Alaskan Klee Kai Waldo was killed last week in a New York hit and run.
But Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas will not be able to press charges against the culprit, according to insiders from law enforcement who spoke to TMZ.
Because the dog was legally an item of property rather than a person, the celebrity couple will have to sue for redress should they choose to pursue the matter in court.

The New York State Department Of Motor Vehicles is responsible for the report Joe and Sophie filed, which was an accident report rather than a criminal one.
Further, the person who killed Waldo did not commit a criminal offense by driving away without leaving any information.
Although the hit and run is currently being investigated, the person responsible has yet to be identified and found.
It is also been relayed to TMZ that motorists in New York City are often unaware when they have struck anything.

Waldo was with a walker out on the Lower East Side last Wednesday when he suddenly scampered off into traffic, TMZ reported.
The pet had apparently come loose from his leash after a pedestrian frightened him, resulting in what Joe’s rep referred to as the ‘freak accident.’
Newlyweds Sophie and Joe also share a dog called Porky whom the Game Of Thrones actress was seen holding close while out this Friday.

The family tragedy comes roughly a month after the couple held their star-studded second wedding, this one in the South Of France.
