Hyfrydol Care Home in Maesteg, near Bridgend, South Wales, previously housed pensioners but has been empty since 2018. 

The guide price of just £148,000 means the each bedroom costs under £5,000 per room.

Now house hunters are being offered the chance to buy the ultimate fixer upper – with opportunities to change it to an Airbnb or a massive family home.

The property will go under the hammer with Paul Fosh Auctions in February.

A spokesman for the auctioneers said: ‘A substantial former care home situated in a convenient location approximately two to three minutes from Maesteg and nine miles from Bridgend.

‘The property currently has 30 residential bedrooms, professional kitchen and ample communal areas.’
