A 125ft slide which links two streets in Spain has been forced to close only a day after it was opened after many locals reported suffering injuries.

The steel chute in Estepona, a resort town in the Costa del Sol, was intended to give people a quick way to travel from one street to another, saving a 10-minute walk.

It is believed to be Spain’s longest slide and has a gradient of around 34 degrees but many have hurtled down at such a speed they have caused themselves injuries.

The slide was opened on Thursday and videos immediately started appearing on social media of people of all ages flying off the end.

After people complained about their injuries, the council ordered the private company to carry out a safety inspection, according to The Guardian.

One woman wrote on Twitter: ‘The Estepona slide is a piece of s***.

‘I went on it and got hurt all over. I flew two metres and the police started to laugh.’

She then went on to share photographs of her grazed arms and said she has worse bruises on her bottom.

The council said injuries were an ‘isolated incident’ and said more than a thousand people used the slide correctly after following the instructions next to the slide.

The slide cost an estimated €28,000 and was installed by a private company redeveloping the area, according to The Olive Press.

The incidents have sparked hundreds of memes and jokes on social media of the slide and its wounded victims.

One joked: ‘In the final episode of Game of Thrones, characters are thrown down the slide of Estepona and the one that survives, wins the throne.’
