Splendour In The Grass reveller ‘tries to smuggle MDMA in Nutella jar’

A 22-year-old woman allegedly tried to smuggle 12 MDMA capsules into a music festival by hiding the party drugs in a jar of Nutella.

The woman, who allegedly hid the capsules in a jar of Woolworths’ home brand choc hazelnut spread, was arrested on Thursday night while trying to enter Splendour In The Grass, the music festival held just north of Byron Bay.

She was issued a court attendance notice for possessing a prohibited drug and was ‘removed from the festival,’ police said in a statement.

In an unrelated incident police arrested three juvenile fence-jumpers who were allegedly trespassing on the Splendour grounds at 1am on Friday morning.

All three were taken home to their parents, and were issued with court notices for trespassing.

Festival organisers and NSW police issued a warning to people who were planning to jump the fence after a Facebook event called, ‘Jumping Splendour 2k18’, went viral with more than 3,800 people saying they would attend and 11,500 interested.

In the event description it said the plan was to jump the fence together, after dark, so that it was difficult for security to catch them.

Organisers posted on the Splendour page on Thursday waning potential jumpers that they would be caught and fined.

‘We have been monitoring and are aware of all groups planning to enter Splendour without a valid ticket,’ the post read.

‘Every system and access point you think you have mastered, we know about.

‘Anyone trespassing on the Splendour or neighbouring properties without an event ticket will receive an on the spot fine and removed from the festival.

‘If you are under 18, the police will call your parents.’

Sniffer dogs were also going to be present at the festival police warned.

Splendour In The Grass will run from Friday, 20th July until Sunday, 22nd July, and will feature headline sets from Lorde, Vampire Weekend and Kendrick Lamar.
