A woman has been found lying dead in her home, in an incident police are treating as suspicious.

The body of the unidentified woman was discovered inside the home on View Street, St Albans in Melbourne’s west, at about 9.15am on Sunday.

It’s believed the woman’s body may have been in the house for multiple days, with a Victoria Police spokesperson saying mystery still surrounded the death.

It comes as a neighbour claims to have found a knife dumped in her car, which was parked on the street and allegedly broken into overnight.

Sharon Delmo claims to have found the weapon in her car at about 3.30pm this afternoon, which she told the Herald Sun looked like it had been ‘broken into’.

‘I opened my car and it looked like it had been broken into with stuff taken out everywhere,’

‘Then I found the knife and was shocked, I hope it isn’t related to the death.’

Homicide detectives at the scene investigating the death have been door knocking neighbours.

Ms Delmo said police had quizzed them on whether they’d seen anything suspicious in recent weeks.

‘We’d heard they (the woman) may have been there for a few days before they found her this morning,’ she said.
