St Clair Sydney murder investigation: Daughter arrested after ‘beheaded’ mother found dead

Daughter, 25, is charged with murder after allegedly ‘DECAPITATING her mother as she babysat a relative in their family home – before dropping the head in a neighbour’s front yard’

  • Officers were called to a western Sydney home after reports of an argument
  • The mother, who was found dead inside the home, had suffered multiple injuries 
  • The daughter was arrested by officers after a knife was seized at the property
  • A four-year-old boy was inside the home and was sustained a minor head injury 

A woman allegedly stabbed her mother to death before cutting her head off and tossing it a neighbour’s front yard.

Officers arrived at a St Clair home in Sydney’s western suburbs at about 11.40pm on Saturday after an argument allegedly broke out between the two women. 

Rita Camilleri, 57, suffered multiple stab wounds with reports she had been beheaded, 9News reported.

The rest of her body was found inside her home on St Clair Avenue when police entered.

The daughter was arrested in the front yard of a neighbour’s house and taken to St Mary’s Police Station, and was later charged with murder.. 

A knife was seized at the scene and is being forensically examined.  

Ms Camilleri is believed to have been babysitting a four-year-old relative on Saturday night. He is not the accused woman’s son.

The little boy sustained a minor head injury and was taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital but has since been released. 

Officers have been interviewing neighbours and investigating the circumstances of the overnight incident. 

A crime scene has been established.
