Stabbing deaths in Alva, Townsville: Police expect to charge teenager with murder

A baby-faced teenager is expected to be charged with the murders of two men who were stabbed to death after opening their door and letting a terrified woman inside.

Father-of-three Corey Christensen, 37, and his friend Tom Davey, 27, were watching the rugby league grand final at a home in Alva, a sleepy seaside town south of Townsville in Queensland’s north, on Sunday night.

The game had only finished a few hours earlier when a screaming Candice Locke, 29, came to their door and begged the pair to let her inside, 9 News reported.

The woman was reportedly running away from 19-year-old Dean Webber, who is said to have arrived at the house shortly after with a group of men.

Police will allege Webber stabbed Mr Christensen and Mr Davey to death on the road after a brawl broke out between the two groups.

A Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed to Daily Mail Australia Mr Webber, who was taken in for questioning on Sunday, was expected to be charged with two counts of murder on Monday night.

It’s unknown what sparked the brawl, with police currently interviewing witnesses to understand the relationships of those involved.

Paramedics arrived at the scene just after midnight to find the two men bleeding on the road outside the house with critical stab wounds.

The pair were pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to administer CPR were unsuccessful.

Ms Locke was taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder.

Detective Inspector Chris Lawson said emergency services were called to a ‘horrific scene’.

‘It was a horrific scene to arrive there and find two people, you’re talking about the dead of night when it’s totally dark,’ he said.

‘People with those sorts of injuries in the middle of the street will obviously affect those that had to go there and provide that first aid.

‘It’s harrowing.’

Alva local Brett Ward told 9 News the double stabbing had rocked him.

‘When you wake up and your daughter asks ‘is that a body bag on the side of the road’ … I feel bloody terrible,’ he told the publication.

‘We live in a nice quiet area and when something like this happens it’s just f***ing disgusting.’

‘But it’s not looking like a nice scenario.’
