Stacey Dooley hits back on Twitter after trolls left ‘cruel comments’ about her new BBC show

Stacey Dooley has hit back at trolls who inundated her with ‘cruel comments’ after the BBC announced she was the face of a new entertainment show. 

The presenter, 33, had retweeted the news on Tuesday, after the network said she would host a brand new programme called This Is My House. 

But Stacey was left discouraged by those who weren’t supportive of her next career move and took to Twitter on Wednesday, hurt and upset. 

Stacey wrote: ‘Reading some of the unnecessarily cruel comments re my new gig. I got the same criticism doing strictly and Glow up. 

‘I did well on strictly and Glow up went on to be a global series, that was recommissioned and Netflix took. I don’t know why this platform is so unkind..’

Some of the mean comments included: ‘And we are paying a licence fee for this?’ and ‘What bothers me about this, warming to my theme, is that the BBC is ‘creating’ a celebrity out of Stacey Dooley, who now has lucrative advertising contracts, and very soon they will be charging us over £1m via the licence fee for the ‘pleasure’ of watching her.’

Stacey had previously retweeted a post from the BBC which read: ‘@StaceyDooley is back with a new entertainment show for @BBCOne. #ThisIsMYHouse sees four people walk into a home and say, ‘This Is MY House’, but the catch is only one of them is telling the truth…’.

A host of the Strictly winner’s celebrity pals rushed to the comments section to show their support. 

BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker said: ‘This is why I feel twitter – for all the positives – will eventually die. What are the benefits of allowing people into your life to shout at you & tell you you’re rubbish? You’re not Stace… you’re great and the overwhelming majority of non-pubes will wish you the best’.

Katie Piper added: ‘People projecting so much negativity which in turn breeds more unhappiness into their own life. I love the passion and skill you put Into everything you do. I re watched all of your docs in lockdown some for the 3rd time!’ 

It comes as Stacey has reportedly received a £125,000 boost in her earnings after being crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion in 2018.

The broadcaster who has most recently been presenting EastEnders: Secrets From The Square, saw her earnings rise to £350,000, according to accounts obtained by The Sunday Mirror.

Since winning Strictly, Stacey has continued to present an array of hard-hitting documentaries along with an array of other programmes, and is also dating her professional dancer partner Kevin Clifton.

According to accounts for Stacey Dooley Productions Ltd, the star has seen a huge boost in her earnings since being crowned the winner of Strictly. 

Stacey has also presented the BBC Three series Glow Up: Britain’s Next Big Makeup star, and has guest hosted The One Show on several occasions.
