Stacey stays on Great British Bake Off and Yan leaves

She’s made a fair number of catastrophic baking errors in the last few episodes of the Great British Bake Off.

But despite her mistakes, contestant Stacey Hart, 42, is still in the competition – much to the anger of many viewers on Twitter.

Instead, popular Chuen-Yan ‘Yan’ left the Channel 4 show after failing to impress judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood during Italian Week.

And fans on social media were not happy with the decision.

Several said Stacey should have left the competition weeks ago for consistently under-performing on the hit baking show.

Last week, they were incensed when Siberian siren Julia Chernogorova was booted off instead of stay-at-home mother-of-three Stacey from Radlett – despite her leaving baking parchment in her pie in Pastry Week.

And they were still flabbergasted when Stacey lived to bake another day on Tuesday night after scientist Yan, 46, was sent home.

Yan had struggled under the intense 40C heat in the tent on Tuesday night, which was filmed on one of the hottest days of the year.

Her Sicilian cannoli fell apart in judge Prue’s hands, and her batch of sfogliatella didn’t have any lamination.

But Stacey didn’t fare much better, as the choux pastry in her sfogliatella burst out and her creme patisserie was far too runny.

She also struggled in the cannoli round, as her pastry was bubbly, and in the pizza technical challenge.

Pretty Scouse blacksmith Kate Lyon also struggled during Italian Week, and viewers at home were unsure as to who would leave the tent.

But they were outraged that the judges decided to kick Yan out.

One said that even Stacey ‘thought she was leaving,’ after the former teacher cried when the decision was announced.

Prue comforted her by putting her hands on her shoulders – before admitting the decision had been ‘close’.

Several asked: ‘How is she still there?’

Meanwhile it was a hat-trick for Steven Carter-Bailey who was named Star Baker for the third time this series for his showstopping sfogliatella and perfect pizza.

The Great British Bake Off is on Tuesdays on Channel 4 at 8pm.
